Grand Canard Mitigation Bank
Jefferson Davis Parish
Grand Canard Brochure
Grand Canard Mitigation Bank is a 1,748-acre site located in Jefferson Davis and Calcasieu Parishes, Louisiana.
The Grand Canard Mitigation Bank is a 1,748-acre site located in Jefferson Davis Parish just over 3 miles south of Bell City, Louisiana with 271.7 acres protected in perpetuity by conservation servitude. The mitigation bank primarily services the USGS Cataloging Unit 08080202 (Mermentau Basin) which contains more than 2,363 square miles and includes a large area of Jefferson Davis parish as well as portions of Vermilion and Acadia parishes.
Restoration investments include significant hydrology management to address water flows across the site and planting of freshwater marsh plant species supplied by RES’ Point Aux Chene nursery. Species of oak, ash, pecan and elm trees compose the bottomland hardwood plantings with baldcypress, tupelo gum, ash and pecans comprising the cypress tupelo restorative plantings at this bank site. The surrounding land use is primarily rural with a mixture of agricultural use, freshwater marsh, wetland scrub-shrub and forested wetlands, and the project site is just north of the Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge, ensuring the restoration activities are consistent with the local ecosystems.
Bottomland Hardwood Restoration
This project will serve portions of Acadia, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette and Vermillion Parishes.
